Notes from The Bad Apple from a former poutine virgin.
1-2 A stick to your ribs starter. Here's my first ever bite of poutine — a Quebecoise dish of well-crisped fries topped with gravy + a little too large of cheese curds ($7) + an additional side of fried cheese curds ($8).
3-4 Art on the wall + the view across from me: Benny + Benna figuring out what to order.
5-6 Benna + I shared: "Say Cheese" — pepper jack, provolone, cheddar, spinach, onion + tomato grilled cheese on light rye ($7) and a chick pea salad — chick peas, olives, feta, onion, arugula, cucumber, + citrus vinaigrette ($5 for a small).
7 Seth had: "Ole Imperial" — Gonzo imperial porter glazed mushroom + onion, white cheddar on an English muffin with side of sweet potato fries ($8).

3 Organic creamed spinach: Blue Moon Farm garlic ($2), a pour of sherry, and finished with a roux ...using Kalona SuperNatural organic whole cream ($3.50), King Arthur white flour ($4), + homemade orange zest butter.

"Barnyard chic meets industrial garage" @FoundingFarmers
2 Kalee + Mason deciding what to eat.
3 Founding Farmers menu...including extensive coffee and tea descriptions. Intelligensia, represent!
4-7 What we ordered: Kalee's Hangover Special ($12), Mason's "Red Flannel" Hash ($12), Seth's Black Pepper Maple Cured Ham and Eggs ($12), and my Eggs Benedict Florentine ($10).

Moules au choix.
A mouthwatering, affordable lunch in the Eastern Market area in Washington D.C. @ Montmarte: Steamed mussels — pastis, shallots, basil, and white wine; $8.95

DC delights.
On our way ($2.25 on CTA), the ride to Dupont Circle and ceiling of the Metro ($1.85), and late night Krispie Kreme ($5 for 1/2 dozen).
12.09.2010
Oncorhynchus nerka.

Annual sweet tooth.
This year, we infused the white melts ($2.99 a bag) with pulverized peppermint (99 cents a cane). It's much more pink and pretty dang delicious. For our family's recipe, go here and make the necessary adjustments by infusing the mint flavor.

What I wore: Green 50s dress + clutch.
Dress is for sale for the next 10 days on my Ebay page. I'll be posting more holiday wear in the next few days...thinking about selling some of the accessories, too...
I forgot how much I enjoy wearing green: A 50s style dress ($30), blue clutch ($15), metallic Prada pumps ($250).

Ten o'clock meal.
Buy organic Cornish hen, prep with fresh ground pepper + salt, sear the bird in grapeseed oil.
Sautee leeks + shitake mushrooms, add sherry, add polenta, blend together.
Add in pink peppercorns with hen, finish in oven on 400.
Ta da!
