Even though it may not be the most affordable place in downtown Austin for BBQ, Lamberts is pretty killer. We started off with complimentary mini cornbread rolls and a few Lone Star beers (a local Texas brew for $3 a piece). Everything on the menu looked mouthwatering — but, we only had eyes for the oak smoked, natural beef brisket done in a brown sugar + coffee rub accompanied with a side of house pickled escabeche of jalapenos, cauliflower, and onions ($16).
I'm more of a fan of the melt in your mouth brisket — and Lamberts has more marbling than I would have preferred. The taste of the brisket was smoky, meaty, tender, salty, and fatty. Three different sauces were also served on the side: house, mustard, and hot. We topped off our order with the family style smoked bacon braised collard greens ($6) which unfortunately, resembled more of a single serving portion.
