So cute inside! During the storm, we ran in to have some mint chip, Oreo, and mint-orange ice cream.

The little Muffaletta that traveled far.
Debbie and Matt brought us a muffaletta from Central Grocery. Yes, all the way from New Orleans. They ordered the olive salad on the side so it would stay fresh!! Even eighteen hours later, so. Fucking. Delicious.

Shrimps @RMRestaurant in @dtChampaign w/ @LibbyKacich, Bob, + @SethFein! (PIC)
A damn fine meal at Radio Maria in downtown Champaign. The description, straight off the menu: sugarcane shrimp curry, shrimp skewer glazed in sugarcane with jasmine rice, avocado, mango, lump crab and a red curry sauce ($18).

Mistake #1: overcooking pork (PIC)
Leaving pork a little pink gives your meat better flavor and you won't get sick. When people let it cook til it turns white, it tastes bland and it's too chewy.
Chops from Moore Family Farm ($9 for two), quinoa and from Common Ground ($3), and lima beans from Meijer ($2.50).

Food for my stomach (@cg_food_coop) and my soul (@franzentweets).
On page 52 of "The Corrections" and so far, I enjoy it as much as "Freedom". The burrito ($5.37 with salsa) pretty much hit the spot, too.
Side note: Mr. Franzen is one striking creature. Thank you, back cover, for alerting me to this fact. Don't ever lose that five o'clock shadow, sir. Rawr.

Cookout.
I'm so behind my posts...
On Thursday, Logan and Marissa had us over for Triple S burgers and hot dogs. Blue cheese for the burgers with braised chard from their garden and homemade relish for the dogs. Erin and I shared to have a taste of both!

Curried.
Toasted quinoa ($3 per lb) with chili powder, curry, fresh mango, leftover smoked pork shoulder, and onions.

Avec.
Upon our arrival, we thought we could devour the entire menu. But, the chorizo-stuffed medjool dates with smoked bacon and piquillo pepper-tomato sauce ($10); whipped brandade with garlic bread and chives ($10); quinoa antipasto (compliments of Jesse); 250mL of white wine ($12); a selection of salumi with garniture ($15); housemade bratwurst with cardamom and braised white beans and pickled ramp vinaigrette ($12); "deluxe" focaccia with taleggio cheese, ricotta, truffle oil and fresh herbs (again, thank you Jesse) got the best of us.
Thank you, Avec. It was so very filling and I fell in love with it all. I can't wait to return!

Beef and Italian ice. AND hot dogs.
I'm still a believer that Jay's has the best beef in Chicago. Though tonight, I was craving a creamy Italian ice from Johnnie's in Elmwood Park.
The beef is just fine, however, no other ice in the city compares. Sadly though, we asked if their hot dogs were Vienna Beef and they promptly said "yes" without hesitation. So we ordered one - why would they lie? - and learned quickly that we had been taken for a ride. Shame on you, Johnnie.
For those of you who love their beef, here's the recipe for Johnnie's ...and, for fun, a picture of the cute family with whom we shared a table.
So, we weren't quite satisfied and proceeded to seek out the real deal at Gene + Jude's Red Hots in River Grove. Where they prominently display the yellow Vienna Beef sign as a part of their motif.
Wow. We are stuffed now. All for under $20.

Lush flowers by @Fleurinc at the Aérée Loft.
Fleur's arrangements are simply decadent! Peonies are a definite must have in the garden or home... and for weddings. Its ruffled petals romance the rest of the bunch + their sweet fragrance fills the room. Can you tell I'm getting antsy for *my* peonies to bloom already?
