Gotta love the South.

Taxidermy galore at a truck stop called Boomland and conflicting statements next to said taxidermy.

What I wouldn't give...

To have an order of Surrey's Cafe Bananas Foster French Toast ($9) in front of me right now. It's exactly the sort of stuff that I like: french toast filled with bananas + cream cheese and topped with Bananas Foster Sauce made of rum, brown sugar, bananas and butter. Hands down the best breakfast dish in New Orleans!

Screw Graceland, I'm in love with the @MetalMuseum.

I've cared much for Elvis — so I'm not sure why I would take the time to go visit his house. But, I've always loved metalsmithing. This museum in Memphis, although small, was truly lovely. The newest exhibits, Tributaries by Stacey Lee Webber and Creatures from the Deep by Arline Fisch, were fantastic.

Stacey Lee Webber's work is so extremely meticulous and thoughtful — it's created completely from pennies. Since the metal compound in pennies changed after 1982, she could only fuse pennies pre-1982 as they were made with only copper.

Arline Fisch's (received her MA from UIUC) work is machine + hand knit wire —  it's amazing that this material can be so light and organic. These graceful "creatures from the deep" make the space feel so atmospheric...

The last few photos are from Dichotomies in Objects, a group show on contemporary South African Studio Jewelry, the view of the Mississippi from behind the smith shop + the entrance gate to the Museum.

Picks from the NOMA. @Noma1910

Free Wednesdays at the New Orleans Museum of Art is something of which everyone, both resident and transient, should take advantage. Here are some of my favorite pieces from around the Sculpture Garden and one paperweight by Faberge.

Luke.

This place (and our waitress, Angel) is absolutely perfect: two dozen oysters, one order of moules et frites, eight sidecars, and a rabbit and duck liver pate ($85). Good bye NOLA...you were delightful.

PHOTOS: @SquealNOLA + @JacquesImos

While waiting for our table at Jacques-Imo's — we stopped in Squeal for a drink (Abita Golden Lager, $4) and a nosh (jalapeƱo hush puppies with honey butter, $3.95).

An hour later, we were seated in the back room — which resembled someone's kitschy home.

We started off with complimentary garlic cornbread muffin, drizzled with honey. Everyone raved about the shrimp and alligator sausage "cheesecake" (it's more like a quiche), so we split one of those bad boys ($7.50).

Ate a spinach salad with a single fried oyster and plum vinaigrette, dined on the fried rabbit tenderloin with Creole mustard sauce ($8.50), crawfish etoufee (flavorful, but — puny amount of rice + kinda watery, $23) with a side of corn maque choux (meh, really watery) and mixed greens (just right).

Us, we like our crawfish etoufee a little less expensive, say from a place like Yats in Indianapolis, but all in all, this joint was worthy. They lost Seth's credit card at the end of the night, and we ended up on a small wild goose chase getting it back — but that didn't take away from the splendid night out.
